During his speech at the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers, held by teleconference, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita condemned the hate speech of some extremist Israeli religious organizations.
Bourita stressed that the Kingdom "shares with its sister Arab nations the feelings of deep concern regarding the violent events taking place in the holy city of Al Quds, in particular in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, which faces systematic plans to evict its residents amid escalating Israeli attacks on the Maqdessis, and raids, arrests and intimidation of peaceful worshipers during the blessed month of Ramadan."
The continuation of these practices would only increase the factors of escalation and tension, as well as the prevalence of hate speech, thus making the chances of peace in the region slim and plunging the Palestinian cause and the holy city of Al-Quds in a religious and ideological conflict, he warned.
Noting that this difficult situation is due to the stalemate that has marked the peace process for years, Bourita said that the reviving of the peace process, according to clear determinants, foundations of international legitimacy, resolutions of the Security Council and the Arab Peace Initiative in order to preserve the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and revive a constructive dynamic for peace, is the key to overcoming this situation.
The Kingdom of Morocco places the Palestinian question and the holy city of Al-Quds at the forefront of its concerns, he recalled, reaffirming the firm and clear position of Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, vis-à-vis supporting and defending the Palestinian cause, and its adherence to a peaceful settlement in accordance with the two-state solution agreed on internationally with the 1967 borders and East of Al-Quds as capital for the Palestinian state.
HM the King, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, will continue to defend the special status of Al-Quds and the respect for the freedom to practice religious rites for followers of the three monotheistic religions, added the minister, saying that the Sovereign will spare no effort to protect the Islamic identity of the holy city, preserve the sacredness of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and defend the historical identity of this city as a land of coexistence between monotheistic religions.
In this context, he reviewed the efforts made by the Bait Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, under the High Guidance of HM the King, to support the resistance of the Maqdessis, whether through its annual programs, its projects or its humanitarian aid in the educational, social and health fields.
Morocco firmly and consistently supports all efforts of the Palestinian Authority to defend the rights of the inhabitants of the holy city and protect the sacred values, legal status and Islamic identity of Al-Quds Asharif as capital of the State of Palestine.
The Kingdom of Morocco, "which is attached to peace as a strategic choice, remains convinced of the virtues of dialogue and negotiation since they are the only means of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, away from acts of violence and unilateral actions", concluded the Minister.
