The AU PSC "welcomes the declaration of the 7th African Transitional Justice Forum, which highlighted the need to adopt approaches based on the interconnectedness between transitional justice, gender equality, mental health and psychosocial support and socio-economic justice in Africa and, in this regard, reiterates its support for the AU Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) and the African Transitional Justice Forum as relevant continental frameworks to guide national efforts", said the Council in a statement issued on Friday following its meeting on "transitional justice and post-conflict peace-building".
The AU PSC also "called for an increase in AU resources and technical assistance to member states in order to strengthen their institutional capacity to promote transitional justice in Africa".
The declaration of the 7th African Transitional Justice Forum, held in Morocco, emphasized the interconnection between transitional justice, gender equality, mental health, psychosocial support and socio-economic justice in Africa, as well as the importance of adopting concerted approaches, programs and policies in this respect.
The PSC also called for more meaningful participation of victims of conflict-related injustice, including women, youth and girls, as well as marginalized groups, in all transitional justice processes, notably through supporting civil society organizations working on transitional justice initiatives.
