The suspect, aged 30, was arrested while trying to transport, from a tourist complex, a set of equipment used in maritime navigation aboard a vehicle bound for a coastal area in Saïdia, said the National Police (DGSN) in a statement, noting that the suspect was accompanied by eleven Moroccan individuals, candidates for illegal emigration and aged 18 to 48.
The search operations carried out inside the caught vehicle led to the seizure of an inflatable boat, a marine engine, eight oars, an air pump, 13 life jackets, nine liters of engine oil and eight plastic barrels containing 200 liters of fuel, the statement added.
All the arrested individuals were remanded in police custody for the investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor's office in order to determine the ins and outs of this case and to identify the possible international ramifications of this criminal network, the DGSN concluded.
